For the past few years, at the end of each season, the château owners château one work from among those on display to be added to the “Arielle and Hervé Borne sculpture collection Hervé Borne This year’s selection is“Grande Tête.” Part of the “Basalt Organs” series, this sculpture is one of Denis Monfleur’s most iconic works for the simple reason that it is very large—2.07 meters—which is rare. It is a “Monfleurian” vision of heads, as the artist himself puts it. The size of the work, combined with the treatment applied to the figure’s face—a shallower polish that resembles skin texture—lends elegance to the sculpture or figure and makes it appear alive and sensual. It was these characteristics that captivated Arielle and Hervé Borne guided their final choice.
