Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)

Johann Sebastian Bach was a composer of the Baroque period, the height of which he symbolises and personifies, and had a major and lasting influence on the development of Western music. The greatest composers, such as Mozart and Beethoven, recognised him as an unsurpassed master.
His work is remarkable in every respect: for its harmonic, melodic and contrapuntal rigour and richness, its formal perfection, the height of its inspiration and the number of its compositions. It escapes the traditional gradation (formation, period of maturity and then decline): the quality of the early works equals that of the later compositions.
Johann Sebastian Bach is often regarded as the greatest composer of all time and the father of Western music. (www.wikipedia.fr)
