From the horse-drawn carriage to the golf cart: The evolution of mobility

The history of mobility is marked by a fascinating evolution of means of transport, reflecting technological advances and societal changes over the decades.

Created in the 18th century and reaching its definitive form in the 19th, the horse-drawn carriage was the main mode of transport, symbolizing the elegance and comfort of a bygone era.

In the 1930s, cars began to gain in popularity, with iconic models laying the foundations for the modern automotive industry. The 1940s, despite the disruptions of war, saw significant advances in robustness and design.

The 1950s were synonymous with prosperity and style, with cars featuring curved lines and gleaming chrome.

The 1960s, meanwhile, marked a period of innovation and freedom, with more powerful vehicles and bolder designs.

At the same time, cycling remains a popular means of transport, embodying gentle, environmentally-friendly mobility.

Finally, today, the golf cart symbolizes a modern, pragmatic approach to mobility, used in a variety of environments, including at the Château d'Ainay-le-Vieil.

The means of transport presented for the European Heritage Days by the Château d'Ainay-le-Vieil tell part of our collective history and illustrate the ongoing evolution of our lifestyles and technologies.
