Frédéric François Chopin

Frédéric François Chopin

Born in 1810 in Żelazowa Wola, Poland, and died in 1849 in Paris. Having trained at the Warsaw Conservatory and made an early career in Poland and Vienna, Chopin moved to France, in the heart of the Parisian piano scene. He met George Sand. Their romance lasted nine years.

Frédéric Chopin left his mark on the Romantic period both as a pianist and as a composer. Still widely performed, his music is part of the universal piano repertoire. His influence was great, both as the inventor of a new playing technique and as the inspiration for a whole line of composers: Gabriel Fauré, Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, Sergei Rachmaninov and Alexander Scriabin.
